Joel M. Westbrook
Joel Westbrook is a trial lawyer who has been practicing law in California since 1998. His practice emphasizes insurance law, real estate, and commercial litigation. Mr. Westbrook has achieved seven figure recoveries for both individuals and businesses in insurance bad faith litigation and in real estate litigation.
Mr. Westbrook is frequently retained to represent clients in complex, multi-party litigation. This often includes representing insurance policyholders as coverage counsel against carriers who are reluctant to provide a defense. Mr. Westbrook has a strong record of proving potential coverage and establishing a duty to defend, particularly in situations where carriers have filed suit against their insureds seeking to be relieved of their defense obligations.
Mr. Westbrook also represents individual policyholders against insurance companies, including bad faith cases involving homeowners insurance, construction insurance, and long-term care insurance. He has obtained substantial recoveries for clients in toxic mold cases.
In addition to insurance cases, Mr. Westbrook represents property owners in real estate litigation, including multi-party landslide cases, and businesses in commercial disputes, both in court and in arbitration.
Outside of litigation, Mr. Westbrook acts as a consultant for both policyholders and their attorneys, which includes assistance with submitting insurance claims, communicating with adjusters, and reviewing policies to determine what coverage is available or needed.
Mr. Westbrook further provides business transaction services for small businesses and corporations. He particularly enjoys helping startup companies and entrepreneurs realize their business goals.
Mr. Westbrook is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, and Kenyon College. He is a member of the Contra Costa County Bar and regularly works with United Policyholders, a non-profit organization which advocates for the rights of insurance policyholders.
